Father/Daughter Camping

Jeff and Bryan decided to take the "big girls" on a little father/daughter camping trip two weekends ago.  Ava was SO excited to go, and kept telling me in the days leading up to it "We're going camping! I'm going to see Charlotte! And fish!! And eat cookies!!!" (Yep, sounds about the speed of a father/daughter camping trip!)

Here's their campsite up in Seven Oaks, which is about halfway up the back side of Big Bear.

They fished on the stream right by camp, and also up at Big Bear Lake.  Jeff was very proud to report that Ava really loves fishing and actually didn't want to quit.  Like father, like daughter!  Ava was proud to report that she was "chompin' the fish" that they caught.  Only a very true fisherwoman will eat trout (and that I am not!)

Here're the girls at Big Bear Lake.

And Ava didn't only chomp trout, but also those previously referenced cookies... AND s'mores. Happy Camper!

This is a picture text that I received from them late one night.

They shared our blow up mattress - they tent camped, but, even though Jeff wouldn't readily admit it, no one enjoys roughing it in this family anymore! - and slept snuggled up all night.  One thing to know about Jeff: he's not a snuggler. He can be convinced to snuggle right when we get into bed, but once he's ready to sleep he's FIRMLY on his side of our Cal King.... and I better not be. And, when Ava co-slept with us from time to time when she was younger, she AND I had better have been FIRMLY on my side of the bed.

But when they returned from this trip, I noticed a little stronger bond between them.  They have always been close, but something was different.  Ava didn't ask for me while away for three days and had such a great time with her Dad.  Jeff retuned talking of selling his Quad (something I have NEVER heard mention of before!) and looking for a trailer so it'd be easier for us to camp more.  It makes my heart light seeing them together in this way.  It makes me proud, in just another way, of the man I married years ago, and excited for the childhood that our girls will have.
