On her actual day, we made our way to, where else, but Disneyland, to have a lunch date with the princesses at Ariel's Grotto.
You pay a pretty penny for a kid's meal when it is accompanied by five Disney princesses, but it's a good thing we did it now because at lunch Ava asked me "is that really Belle? It doesn't look like her." To which naturally I replied "here, Honey, have some more ice cream." And, recently Ava hasn't even wanted to wear a princess dress; not even one! Can't believe our princess years are coming to an end. Scarlett more than made up for it by tackling every princess that came by our table.
The day after her birthday, Ava had a little Frozen movie night/mocksleep over with a handful of her closest friends. Frozen is, of course, a hit around here, and the mock sleep over part was due to the fact that all she wanted was a sleepover… with a bunch of five year olds who's worst nightmare is probably sleeping at someone else's house. Sorry, kid, you'll get your real sleepover in a few years.
In the meantime, everyone showed up in jammies with a pillow and piled on an air mattress in our family room. It was the perfect five and under "sleepover."
Ava has such a huge heart for everyone around her. She's compassionate and generous, and I am so thankful that I first learned from her what it meant to be a Mom. I'm also glad that she is the example that our other children will have to look up to. Thank you, sweet girl, for being you.
A little summary of my big FIVE YEAR OLD!
